How Long Do Demerit Points Stay on Your Driving Record?

If convicted of a Traffic Ticket Violation, the Demerit Points associated with the conviction will  stay on your  driving record for two years from the offence date.

How Many Demerit Points Do I Have?:

G Licence Holder: 15

G2 Licence Holder: 9

G1 Licence Holder: 6

Penalties for Demerit Points?

G Licence Drivers

  • 2 to 8 points: You will be sent a warning letter.
  • 9 to 14 points:  You may be requested to attend an interview with the MTO where you licence may be suspended.  The Fee for the interview is $50.00.
  • 15+ points: Your licence will be suspended for 30 days.

Novice Drivers: G1, G2, M1, M2, M1-L or M2

  • 2 to 5 points: You will be sent a warning letter.
  • 4 demerit points: Automatic 30 day suspension
  • 6 to 8 points: You may be requested to attend an interview with the MTO where you licence may be suspended.  The Fee for the interview is $50.00
  • 9 or more points: Your licence will be suspended for 60 days.
